Leah Mariani
Leah Mariani is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist whose figurative practice explores representations of womanhood through a feminist lens. Working primarily in painting, she examines the ways women are portrayed within popular culture, questioning expectations surrounding identity, beauty, motherhood, and belonging.
Although she originally pursued a career in finance, Leah's connection to art was reignited during her first pregnancy, inspiring her to return to creative practice while balancing family life and her work as an accountant. Over the following decade, she studied visual arts, using painting as both a means of self-expression and a way to reflect on the changing roles and expectations placed upon women throughout different stages of life.
Since holding her first solo exhibition in 2012, Leah has exhibited extensively and has been recognised as a finalist in several prestigious Australian art prizes, including the Omnia Art Prize, Marie Ellis Drawing Prize, Lethbridge 10,000 Small Scale Art Award and the Hornsby Art Prize.
Through expressive figurative works, Leah invites viewers to reflect on the complexity of female identity, celebrating resilience, vulnerability and the lived experiences that continue to shape contemporary womanhood.
