Wiktoria Vogel

Wiktoria Vogel (b. 1998) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw with a master's degree with honors. She is an artist developing her artistic practice in the field of paintings, artistic graphics, and objects. She has presented her works at solo exhibitions in the independent Elektra Gallery in Warsaw, as well as at numerous group exhibitions such as Frans Masereel in Belgium, Galeria Sztuk na Miejscu in Poland, and Tokyo Geidai in Japan.

In her paintings, the main motif is the repeated representation of women's portraits, drawing inspiration from mythological and mystical representations. The artist employs this motif to explore the understanding of the invisible part of reality, metaphorically speaking, "behind the curtain." Using the language of symbols and metaphors, she engages in an internal dialogue with the unconsciousness to decipher hidden messages and gain understanding in the form of finished visual works. The artist sees herself as a vessel through which something higher flows and requires materialisation. This can be seen, for example, in her artistic process, which she refined over the years through experiments, inspired by shamanic practices from various cultures around the world.

Before starting work, the artist enters a trance state, otherwise described as meditative, by activating her sense of smell through burning resin of frankincense and myrrh, used in the world for religious purposes. Movement also plays a significant role for her, allowing her body to lead before each artistic act, completely letting go of control, which enables her to activate the more illogical part of perception. She does all this to maximally calm her logical perception.

The artist creates art that is her own interpretation of the Cubist movement, Persian miniatures, and mystical art. In her practice, she creates her own symbols and metaphors, placing women in the spotlight, which connects her creativity with the concept of HerStory.
