Mishfit

Mishfit is a British contemporary urban artist whose work spans painting, illustration, collage, murals and digital design. She began her career in the early 2000s within the UK’s street art scene, quickly establishing herself as a trailblazing presence in a space where women were often sidelined. Her early mission was direct and uncompromising: counter the hypersexualised images of women dominating graffiti culture by painting fierce, elegant and unapologetically powerful female figures. This commitment to empowerment still anchors her practice today.

For nearly two decades, she lived and worked in Brighton, creating murals across the UK and painting at international festivals, including Upfest and events throughout Europe and Australia. In the studio, she developed a mixed-media approach that merges spray paint, acrylics and premium oil paints. The result is an energetic, textured style where expressive brushwork and luminous gradients collide with fine art detail.

Her imagery is fuelled by a broad constellation of influences: old master paintings and neoclassicism, abstract realism, Japanese ukiyo-e, surrealism, sci-fi, retro-futurism and dystopian film. From these sources, she has cultivated a distinctive visual language centred on dreamlike cloudscapes—vivid, shifting skies that act as metaphors for emotion, introspection and the turbulence of the human experience. Often, these cloud formations intertwine with partially obscured figures, creating a sense of mystery and psychological depth. Themes of transformation, escapism, subversion and strength in the face of adversity recur throughout her bodies of work.

Travel has played a crucial role in shaping her vision. Encounters with global cultures, landscapes, mythology and the forces of nature have deepened her sense of wanderlust and informed her approach to colour, movement and atmosphere. This energy, combined with her formal training in illustration and years spent as a digital designer, gives her paintings a blend of classical awareness, contemporary sharpness and narrative intent.

Her murals and paintings have appeared in luxury interiors, public spaces and unconventional sites alike. She has produced commissioned work for brands such as Royal Caribbean, Brugal Rum and TEDx, and her pieces are collected internationally by private buyers and interior designers.

After more than 20 years in the UK, Mishfit relocated to the wild coastal landscapes of Western Australia—a move that has profoundly expanded the scale, light and emotional range of her work. Now based in Perth, she continues to push the boundaries between Fine Art and Street Art, forging a path that is entirely her own.
