Olaosun Oluwapelumi

Born and raised in Osun State, Nigeria, Olaosun Oluwapelumi currently resides in Ibadan. She holds a BSc in Geography and Planning Science from Adekunle Ajasin University. Her passion for art has been a lifelong pursuit, and she continues to hone her craft with every piece she creates. Olaosun believes that black is not just a colour, but an embodiment of existence, and she uses black skin in her work to convey this profound message.

Olaosun is a passionate artist dedicated to creating positive change through her art. Her mediums of choice are acrylic and oil on canvas, and she spends days meticulously working on each piece to ensure it expresses her emotions and connects deeply with her viewers. Drawing inspiration from her life experiences and everything that touches her feelings, she addresses themes such as mental health, gender inequality, social issues, and African history.

"My inspiration stems from the way society treats men, expecting them to be tough and stoic while sidelining or dismissing their emotional well-being. My art serves as a testament that men, like anyone else, experience a range of emotions and struggles deserving recognition and support.

Through my canvases, I strive to capture the complexities of men's emotions, painting their innermost feelings with vivid strokes and bold colours. Each brushstroke reflects the challenges they face in navigating life's uncertainties and the mental hurdles they encounter along the way.

In addition to portraying the intricacies of men's mental health, I delve into abstraction, using brushstrokes to create patterns that mirror the chaos and turbulence of everyday life. These abstract pieces visually represent the multifaceted challenges individuals encounter, both internally and externally.

Ultimately, my art serves as a platform for fostering conversations about men's mental health and breaking the stigma associated with vulnerability. By highlighting the humanity and emotional depth of men, I hope to contribute to a more compassionate and inclusive society where everyone's mental well-being is valued and supported."

Olaosun's works have been exhibited in galleries and art fairs both locally and internationally, sparking emotions and inspiring change. Each piece stands as a testament to her dedication to her craft and her desire to make a meaningful impact on the world.
