About the Artist
Annemarie’s work is grounded in the process of preservation, where transformation becomes a quiet act of attention rather than loss. As botanicals move from vitality to stillness, form gives way to structure, negative space, and rhythm, revealing new meanings over time. Guided by symbolism rather than spectacle, her practice engages with life’s thresholds, moments of union, remembrance, and return, creating works that hold personal and cultural resonance.
About the Artwork
Although my Mother wasn’t Lithuanian, but Australian, her passing was the ‘portal’ that brought my Father back to his homeland, Lithuania. An ode to the mother as the "Great Origin” - the sea, the sun, and the giver of life. This piece explores grief and how the loss of a "fixed" home (a person) can lead us to carry our cultural identity even closer. It is the bridge between my Australian reality and my Lithuanian return.
