About the Artist:
Sarah Park’s practice centres on contemporary realism, using precise observation, velvety colour transitions and controlled light to illuminate fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. Her work carries a strong corporeal presence, with textures, shadows and tiny shifts in tone bring each subject into intimate focus. Trained at UNSW COFA with a Bachelor's, Master’s by Coursework and a Master of Fine Art by Research, she has been widely recognised through awards, publications and numerous art prize selections. Her paintings invite viewers into deeply considered scenes where detail, emotion and atmosphere construct narrative without a single word.
About the Artwork:
As part of my ongoing fascination with light and shadow, ‘Opalescent Embrace’ is part of a series of paintings exploring the relationship between the figure and a handheld fan, each conveying a distinct feeling or message. Through carefully composed scenes, I aim to evoke curiosity, delight, and an appreciation for the subtle details revealed in the interplay of light and shadow. This 2024 series draws inspiration from the luminous hues of opals and the shifting colours of sunsets and sunrises.
