About the Artist

With a background in liberal arts and a Bachelor’s Degree in Photography from Webster University, Vermilye combines technical understanding with an experimental approach to digital image making. He creates all his work on a smartphone, capturing scenes, manipulating forms, and reconstructing meaning through mobile editing. Techniques such as flipping, symmetry and repetition often produce fractal-like compositions and dreamlike geometries. This approach forms the foundation of psychodynamic photography, a method that encourages a personal connection between artist, image and viewer. His work has been shown internationally in Geneva, London, Seoul and New York, as well as online in Metaverse exhibitions.

About the Artwork

This artwork, titled ‘Are You Good Enough?’, is an inkjet print on photo paper measuring 100 x 57 cm, created in 2024. The composition features a striking, symmetrical view of a modern building facade, where the strong lines and geometric precision of glass panels and metallic frames converge at an intense central axis, forming a mirrored effect. The symmetry gives the building a surreal, fortress-like appearance, enhanced by the background darkness, which isolates it from context and evokes a sense of introspection or even judgment. Sparse, bare branches enter the frame at the top, adding a natural contrast to the strict architectural lines. The title and composition suggest themes of self-reflection, societal standards, and perhaps the alienating nature of urban architecture, inviting viewers to question personal worth within rigid external frameworks.
